Greg Macke - Your Car Angel - reviews the 1991 Nissan Figaro. Based on the Nissan Micra platform the Nissan Figaro debuted the Tokyo Autoshow in 1989 and was for sale in Japan to the waiting public. There were 20,073 Figaro s produced at the Nissan Pike factory. As one of the first retro cars to market the Nissan Figaro was the precursor to the Volkswagen Beetle, Ford Thunderbird and the Chrysler PT Cruiser. It compares to the Citroen 2CV and the Nash Rambler with the convertible top. Eric Clapton owns one and they are extremely rare in the U.S. Most have ended up in England as a collector car. Is the Mercedes Sprinter or Dodge or Freightliner Sprinter a good van to buy? In this video Greg Your Car Angel goes through the three generations of Sprinters. The first generation T1N which ran between 1995-2006, the second generation NCV3 which ran between 2007-2018 and the third generation VS30 which ran between 2019 and the present. From rust issues to turbo resonators to rumple strip noise is all covered on the !st gen T1N. The dreaded DPF system, the DEF fluid reservoir and the NOX sensors are all covered on the 2nd gen units. and finally the MBUX system is covered on the 3rd gen. Which is the best? Greg thinks the reliability of the OM647 is the best, even over the OM612. The rust areas are on the seams on top of the van and the body panels underneath. These vans are some of the best to build out and up fit as van conversions.

Greg Macke, Your Car Angel, reviews the first generation Mazda Miata. The MX-5 Miata debuted at the Chicago Auto show in 1989 and ran between 1989-1998. Otherwise known as the NA the first generation Miata featured the pop up headlights which were discontinued in the second generation. But it was 1994 that the Miata had a mid cycle refresh and came with a new 1.8 liter engine as well as chassis strengthening and dual airbags. This soft top convertible which featured a front engine rear wheel drive configuration picked up where the Lotus Elan, Triumph Spitfire, Alfa Romeo Spider, Fiat Spider and the MGB left off. Known for its cat-like handling, the Miata had a 50/50 balance with under steer and over steer virtually non existent.

The Toyota Solara is in a league of its own. There is no other used convertible that is reliable as the Solara. Dependable, safe, attractive and with the highest resale value makes the Toyota Solara the best used cabriolet that you can buy. There were two generations of the Solara. The first generation ran between 1998 and 2004 and the second generation between 2005-2008. The problems to look out for with the first generation were a cogged idle air control valve, otherwise known as the IAC, the O2 sensors, sludge problems and leaking valve cover gaskets. The 3.0 engine was a non-interference engine with a timing belt.. The second generation had the 3.3 engine which also had a timing belt but was an interference engine. Both engines were very reliable as long as you changed the oil regularly and on schedule.

Driving a Bentley Continental Flying Spur with a toilet plunger is important. A dead battery will leave you on the side of the road and stranded unless you have it along with you. You cannot keep it in the trunk either since you need to open the trunk to get to the battery.

China: Part II What we consider the ubiquitous food of China (rice) seems unavailable. I never see it on the menu and it is never offered. The Chinese it seems, at least in the Guangdong province, do not eat a lot of rice. They make things with rice, no doubt, but they don t seem to eat it as a staple. They do however eat a lot of noodles. See the beautiful video above. Lucky for me the Blue Ox folks who are working on the development of the Paint Spy (which is why I am here) are also working on another product they are bringing to market for a different client. So I am free about half the time. I use it wisely by going out on walks every chance I get. What I see are people, cars, motorcycles and buildings everywhere, even a Walmart. What I don t see are birds. None. By looking at what they sell at the street markets I figured they must have eaten them all. One evening after woofing down another surprise Chinese mea l, I decide to go walking around the town of Shenzhen by myself. Keep in mind that I am wearing business attire (which are the only type of clothes that I brought) and that I am a foot taller than anyone within 100 miles of this place. In other words I stand out. On my walk I inadvertently get completely lost on the busy streets of China. I had no idea where I was. I walked aimlessly for over 3 hours which I equated to well over 6 miles in strange neighborhoods and dark corridors well past midnight, and never once did I feel the slightest danger. Honking is a way of life for Chinese drivers. I can only imagine that having not grown up with cars in their culture (really just the last 30 years is when the Chinese started driving) they drive without any regard for rules and use the car horn as a constant expression of their inability to coexist on the road with one another. There are also no cops to be seen to keep any of the lawlessness in order. When you are on the streets of China there is an utter cacophony of horns 24/7. Every few seconds another crazed driver is honking. It never stops, never. It is as though we are surrounded by student drivers negotiating the thicket without a clue. Indeed that is exactly what they are. Our driver however is an expert, negotiating the mere inches between the wandering cars and hapless motorcycle riders with no helmets at every intersection like Mario Andretti. He is clearly the exception as evidenced by his suppression of the dreaded horn. Onto our next factory. We finally arrive at the end of a highway that is under construction beneath a freeway bridge that is under construction next to a massive high rise that is under construction to a dirt road that really needs some construction. At the end of the cratered pathway we pass through a security checkpoint and voila, we are at the right place! We walk the 6 flights of stairs up to the factory where we are greeted by a very nice young Chinese woman who speaks a bit of English and we are instantly put in front of the air conditioner that they turn on for us and hand us a can of Red Bull, apparently the beverage of choice for foreigners. The Chinese are polite and willing to extend themselves. They are also very proud of their factories no matter how small or large. The Paint Spy is coming along nicely. We have so far met the Aluminum supplier who is responsible for the barrel and gauge, the Spring supplier (who I swear has a million pounds of different size springs as small as a pin head and big as a car at his ready) and the tool maker who manufactures the high quality plastic extruded components which are the internal pieces needed to hold everything together inside the Paint Spy barrel. During my trip to China I filmed this guy making Chinese noodles by hand. He was a master Zen Noodle Maker. These noodles would go into a chow mein recipe. Or maybe just a simple Chinese soup with vegetables. It was on this same trip that I was visiting the factories in China to have the Paint Spy produced. The Paint Spy is a high quality yet inexpensive paint thickness gauge that will enable anyone to check to see if the car that they are buying has been in a previous accident. allow

This fascinating video shows a car being ground up and shredded into little bits. A car is recycled after a lifetime of service. your car is made from about 35,000 pieces. But only 65% is steel (the rest is made from other metals, glass, rubber and upholstery). Your car might get flattened beforehand, but the end process is all the same. Once it goes through the crusher (see video) the ground up chunks about the size of a half brick get sorted out at a recycling center and then the metal pieces get further separated out for recycling and put back into the world as a usable commodity. Auto recycling is actually a multibillion dollar industry as China hungers for scrap steel. Recycling metal uses about 74 percent less energy than making new steel, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Recycled steel is cheaper as well, since new ore doesn t have to be mined to produce it. All steel produced today has at least 25 percent recycled steel in it, and some products are made entirely from recycled steel. So in addition to the economic and environmental benefits, recycling cars plays an important part in the world s industrial infrastructure. So there you have it. Now you know where your car goes when it dies.

The Prius V is a good choice for families who need more room in their car than the standard Prius but without having to sacrifice the gas mileage. The wagon is an excellent choice in a used car. All the proven technology that shows up that has made Prius the shining example of what constitutes a high quality hybrid remains. Same engine and powertrain with a few noticeable improvements.
