This is a common and known problem with Honda/Acura Integras with electronic rear latches. I believe the effected years are 98-2001. These are only on the 3 door versions so if you have a 4 door Integra this information won t be helpful to you. The most common cause is a faulty latch actuator, but it could also be the switch or relay. I cover how to make that determination in this video. There is also an extended version of this video where I take apart the actuator assembly to try and repair it if you re interested here: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/premium-content-web/13-premium-content-videos/1709-how-to-diagnose-fix-an-integra-rear-hatch-that-won-t-open-extended-version Here is the part # for the actuator assembly: 74840-ST7-A01 I got my part here: http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/acura/integra-hatchback/74840st7a01/2001-year/gs-r-leather-trim/5-speed-manual-engine/body-air-conditioning-cat/tailgate-3-scat/?part_name=actuator-assy-tailgate-opener The best place for answers to your automotive questions: http://www.ericthecarguy.com Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! I bought this Yorktown Tool Roll from Atlas 46 just before I went on a long road trip with my Fairmont. I was looking for a solution that wasn t a tool box to carry all the tools I wanted to bring. I m very happy with what I got and I m still impressed with how many tools I was actually able to fit into this thing. Not to mention, it fits inside my spare tire in the trunk so it won t be bouncing around in my trunk. **I do get a small commission for each item sold from these links** Check one out for yourself: https://www.atlas46.com/products.html?tap_a=32753-544d72&tap_s=240678-1885eb#!/Yorktown-Tool-Roll/p/88260008 Check out other stuff from Atlas46: https://www.atlas46.com/index.html?tap_a=12580-4fee7f&tap_s=240678-1885eb Check out the Atlas46 YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCb3g8anFPwHFio7zQjbFkRQ The best place for answers to your automotive questions: http://www.ericthecarguy.com Check out the ETCG Blog for the latest info: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/blog Check out my ETCG1 channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ETCG1 Thanks for watching! I recently picked up this 2000 Honda Civic from the Pull-A-Part in Indianapolis Indiana. I needed a replacement engine and transmission for my oldest sons 1999 Honda Civic. Apparently he overheated it badly, so I decided to replace his engine as well as his slipping transmission. I didn’t quite get what I needed as you’ll see in the video, but I think this is a great walkthrough on diagnosing a misfire in an engine. I take you through my process from power balance to a quick cylinder leak down test to find the cause of the problem. You can use these skills on any engine to find the cause of a problem like this. I might use this car for something in the future, but for now, I just need to get my oldest sons car back on the road, but don’t be surprised if you see this car again at some point. BTW I’m calling it #ETCGJohnWick. I ve started the modifications on the 1979 Ford Fairmont. Remember kids, many of the things I do to this car also apply to Mustangs from 1979-1992. So if you re looking for a walkthrough on installing frame connectors, this will work for you too. As it shows in the video my Fairmont is slightly longer than a Mustang. This created some challenges when installing the frame connectors. I m still thinking about how I m going to tackle that issue. For now the results are fantastic. The car is more sure footed and a LOT less noisy going over bumps. In my opinion, this is one of the best upgrades you can do to a Fox body vehicle, especially if it s a convertible. I did run into some issues with the brackets. Not sure what that was about. Perhaps there was an issue with my Fairmont, or it could have been a manufacturing issue. So far it seems to have worked out. Lastly, I would recommend using a stripper over a grinder for cleaning the metal. I’d also recommend a face shield as I was picking chucks of metal out of my face for a couple of days after this. Also my safety glasses didn’t catch everything and a couple of times I got junk in my eye. Your donations and my hard work, all pay off in this episode. Yes, it’s time to give away the 2005 Honda Odyssey to a deserving family! In this episode, I do exactly that. Jennifer’s family fell on hard times during COVID and they ended up in a vehicle that just wasn’t working for them. As you’ll see in the video, our chance meeting has changed all of that. I’m very proud to have put your donations to good use here. This is the reason I put in the effort, to help people and give them a second chance. I feel I have realized the vision I’ve had for Fixing it Forward from the beginning. Introducing Fixing it Forward: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfBnTwpEBu0&t=4s I’m still mulling over the future of Fixing it Forward. There have been new developments that effect my ability to do this work. I’ll get into that in a future episode when I have more information. For now, Fixing it Forward donations are on hold until I figure that out. I still have enough in reserve to do at least one more vehicle. We’ll just take things as they come until then. I would like to personally thank everyone that donated to help make this happen. I’d also like to thank those companies that donated their products to help me complete this work. Paul Cangialosi came by the shop to help me rebuild the T5 Transmission that s going into my 1979 Ford Fairmont Project. While we were doing the rebuild, I asked if Paul wouldn t mind talking about the operation of a manual transmission since we had the gear set out of the case anyway. He agreed, and you get this awesome video talking about how manual transmissions work from the master himself. You re welcome. Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! In this video I show you how to replace the input shaft bearing on a 2005 Honda Civic manual transmission. This information will also apply to older Honda manual transmissions found in Civics an Acura Integras and can serve as a basic guide for rebuilding Honda manual transmissions. The issue with this transmission was a noise when the engine was running and the transmission was in neutral. The noise also occurred when driving the car and running through the gears. The only time the noise would go away was when the clutch was depressed and the transmission was disengaged from the running engine. More information on how to solve transmission and clutch problems: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/faq/solving-transmission-problems I hope you find this information useful! #ETCGVideo My Patreon Account: https://www.patreon.com/EricTheCarGuy The best place for answers to your automotive questions: http://www.ericthecarguy.com Check out the ETCG Blog for the latest info: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/blog Check out my ETCG1 channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/ETCG1?sub_confirmation=1 Thanks for watching! Branick 7600 Strut Spring Compressor $744.99 Link to tool: http://www.jbtoolsales.com/branick-7600-strut-spring-compressor#oid=1002_1 Link to Branick: http://www.branick.com I got tired of messing with cheap spring compressors when doing struts. On more than one occasion they let go on me and scared the poop out of me. To solve the problem, I went looking for a good wall mounted spring compressor. Branick was kind enough to hook me up with their 7600. I love it. I ve used it on a couple of occasions so far and have been very happy with it s performance. No longer do I fear doing struts. In fact, I almost want to ask my friends if they need strut work just so I can use the tool. I realize not everyone will be in the market for this tool. I will also add that if you think about it, the tool is much cheaper than any medical expenses you would incur if you had an issue using inferior tools. Lastly, be careful no matter what tool you use when compressing automotive springs. There s a lot of potential energy there and you could be seriously injured or killed. Be sure to follow the safety procedures for whatever tool you decide to use. Also, if you don t have a spring compressor of this type, and you re in need of compressing springs for a job like this, you can always remove the struts yourself and take them to a shop where they can compress the springs for you. That should make the job more affordable and also keep you from getting hurt doing this work. Tool reviews posted every other Wednesday. Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! Here’s a link to Part 1: https://youtu.be/56lB1hDngqU In this episode I complete the installation of the engine and transmission into my Mini Cooper. I also start it up for the first time and I show you the procedures I go through when starting up an engine that’s had a significant amount of work done like this one has. This video has a ton of information on the engine compartment of an R56 Mini Cooper. I hope the information is useful to you. I had some help with editing on this one from Javan Hovind. I needed to remove the front bumper skin on my 2001 Acura Integra so that I could repair my front license plate holder and also recondition the headlights. Since this is a common issue on this car, I thought I would make a video showing how to do this procedure. It s not that difficult. Probably the biggest take away is to be sure that you remove the screws hidden behind the fender liner. Also be sure to use an impact driver when removing the upper retaining screws. Not a bad idea to soak them with some penetrating oil also. Otherwise, a pretty straightforward operation. If you want to see more detail on how I did my license repair, and headlight reconditioning, here s a link to that video: The best place for answers to your automotive questions: http://www.ericthecarguy.com Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! This is a pretty straightforward repair video. The real trick here is the method. I use a special tool that you can purchase or rent to get the job done. It makes things a lot easier, and it will allow you to do the replacement on the car, even though I remove the knuckle in this video. If you wanted to use a Honda replacement part, this video does show you how to remove the knuckle/hub assembly so that you can do that. However, it would be a lot less expensive to just replace the ball joint as I demonstrate in this video. Some have questioned my choice of going with a carburetor for my #FairmontProject engine, #DarkMatterPikachu. In this video I talk about what makes my Demon carburetor special. I also show how to service the jets, adjust float level, adjust the idle, adjust the accelerator pumps, adjusting the opening of the secondary throttle plates, and what tools you d need to do all of that with. Is fuel injection better? I think that s a subjective question. I ll admit that you have better fuel control with fuel injection. I ll also admit that fuel injection would likely be more efficient. However, I feel this carburetor will work perfectly for my application. If not, I have a kick butt carburetor I can use on another engine. No matter what, I think the engine will make plenty of power with this Demon carburetor and that s the main take away here. Link to full version of the video: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/vmanuals/22-vmanual-store/236-2001-gmc-sonoma-2-2l-engine-replacement-video-full-version In Part 5 of the series we finish swapping things over to the new engine, install the slave cylinder and throw out bearing, and get the engine mated back up to the transmission. That was easier said then done. This was actually one of the most difficult engine installations because I was trying to mate the engine up to a manual transmission. If I were to do it again I think I would have pulled the engine and transmission as a unit and mated them up before installation. It might take a little more time to do the R&R but I think it would have made things a LOT easier. I suppose all s well that ends well but I would recommend you pull the transmission with the engine if you have a manual transmission. It might make your life a lot easier.
