It finally came time to remove the old engine and transmission from my #FairmontProject. It s sad that this car will never be in stock form again, but it was always my intention to make this car more than it ever was from the factory. Removing the engine and transmission was the first step in that process. This video will also be helpful if you need to remove one of these straight 6 s from a fox body. The process is identical. I liked some better than others, but some had some really great features. Check out their website, they have a LOT more gloves than I tried out here. You might find something perfectly suited for your needs. I have to say, I may be converted to using this type of glove in the future. I just washed my Mechanc gloves and they came out good as new. Considering the cost, it s actually less expensive than the latex gloves I ve been using for many years. Yes, there are some drawbacks such as the feedback you get from using latex or nitrile gloves, but on the flip side, my gloves aren t filling up with sweat on hot days or ripping during use. You can decide what s right for you but if you re considering something other than latex or nitrile, I d suggest giving Ironclad a look. After purchasing my 1993 Acura Vigor I looked in the trunk to find it filled with water, The spare tire was almost covered. This meant that I had a serious water leak. The next step, was to find out where it was coming from. This video is not exclusive to my Vigor. I used techniques that you can also use to find water leaks in your own vehicle. I also cover some of the most common places I ve found water leaks. Some water leaks can be easy to find. Others, not so much. The idea is to go about finding them in a logical and methodical manner. It might help to have a buddy help also. Anyway, I hope this video helps if you find that you have a water leak in your video. In a future video I plan to cover the repair on my Vigor. I ll post a link here when that video goes live. We ve moved on from Barbara s 1998 Town & Country to this 1998 Ford Contour. This is the second vehicle in the Fixing it Forward series. Solving the no start is only part of the problem. As you ll see in the coming videos with this vehicle, it has a few more issues that need to be worked out. What s interesting about this project is that Barbara herself introduced me to Jeff and his wife. In fact, she s been driving them around occasionally when then need to get from place to place. Both Jeff and his wife have health issues that prevent them from repairing the vehicle themselves. This is where Fixing it Forward comes in. It s my hope to get Jeff s Ford back on the road and in good working condition. So sit back and enjoy the first in this series of videos with the 1998 Ford Contour, also known as a Mondeo in other parts of the world. This was my second year at SEMA and it still impresses me how much stuff they cram into this show. Even after 2 years there s no possible way to see it all. That didn t stop me from trying. It s a lot of overstimulation. A lot of walking. A lot of people to walk around, but in the end, it s probably the best car show on the planet. Join me as I make my way through the show picking out the stuff I like. I also meet up with some old friends and make some new ones. Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! This video covers the cabin air filter replacement on 2nd generation Toyota Tacoma s (2005-2015). Some parts of the procedure will vary with newer models, but the basics are the same. Parts of this procedure may also apply to some first generation Tacoma s as well. It s a simple process and doesn t require a lot of tools. It can also save you a great deal of money replacing this maintenance item yourself. Not to mention it will help keep the air inside your vehicle free from contaminants. The average replacement interval is every 15K, sometimes as low as 10K based on the air quality where the vehicle is being used. Camera: Brian Kast Thanks for watching! Visit me at http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ Visit Rosedale at http://www.rosedaletech.org/ This video documents my trip back to where I got my automotive education, Rosedale Technical Institute in Pittsburgh PA. I have to say that it was probably the most life changing thing that I ever did because since I left that school after getting my automotive education my life has improved dramatically. As I said in the video I m not saying that you have to go to Rosedale to get your automotive education but if you re serious about getting into the automotive field I strongly suggest you find a school that s right for you and get an education in the automotive arts before you get a job in the automotive field, without it I feel you won t do as well and won t be as effective as a technician. Changing Automatic Transmission Fluid and Filter, 1997 Subaru Legacy (Part 1) - EricTheCarGuy Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ This video is actually a continuation of Solving Engine Performance Issues , as some of you may know my Subaru has had a problem with hesitation from a stop and I ve been trying to track down the source. I feel I ve ruled out an engine performance issue so I decided to try and change the transmission fluid and filter as well as the front and rear differential fluids to see if there was a change to the issue, if you watch the video you ll see if there was. Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/ I get lots of requests to just do straight up repair videos like this all the time and I m always happy when I can oblige. This wheel bearing replacement is fairly typical for a FWD vehicle so much of what you see here can be applied to other FWD vehicles. There are variations in the way the bearing attaches to the hub however the principals are pretty much the same. You should not need a press to do this, just some basic hand tools and sockets will do, air tools make it easier but you don t need them to get this done. As you can see in the video I ran into trouble but the method I employed can be used if you find yourself in a similar situation. We were fortunate to have the Coffey s show up at this years Meet Up 2013 . They brought Ryan s Sonoma by for us to check out. I took the opportunity to do a quick check over of the truck to make sure everything was OK. At the time they showed up it had been about 3 weeks since I put the engine in. I m happy to report that there were no issues at all and the truck was running great. I d like to thank the Coffey s for giving me this opportunity to keep their son s truck on the road. May it go many miles and keep Ryan s memory alive for years to come. This might seem like pretty basic information but it is important and often overlooked. If you have noisy brakes you might want to try this. Also, if you feel your brake performance isn t as good as it could be this might be something you could try. It s also a good idea to do this to your vehicle every so often to make sure things are working as they should. This can prevent sticking caliper slides as well as the noise I mentioned. The Honda service interval is about every 30,000 miles. I think that s a good number to start with for servicing brakes. Here are some useful links for you. Many of you have been asking me about Fairmont videos so I thought I would make this one where I take a closer look at what I have to work with. I also talk about some of my plans for this car going forward. I think I have a really nice shell to work with. I have my work cut out for me that s for sure, but as I say in the video, that will just make for more interesting videos. For now, I think I ll drive it. It s a good car after all. A few minor issues, but nothing to really worry about. I may do some of the repairs such as the inner tie rod in an upcoming video. I just need to work out the alignment when I m done. Looks like an easy job though, easier than some of the other power steering rack stuff I ve done. Anyway, enjoy the video. Here s some links. I was much happier with this inspection camera than I was with the one from General. Sure, it has less features, but I feel the picture quality is much better than the other tool. Also, the price is about $100 less. I know I said it was about half the price in the video, but I misspoke when I said that. I m going to keep this one and use it in future videos. I ll admit, I have a thing for Fords of this vintage. This 1965 Comet however, was an exceptional build in my opinion, and yes I know it s a Mercury. That said, I have to thank Chad Hill of Hot Rod Chassis and Cycle for his time and this interview. I think they did a great job of keeping things classic but turning the volume up just enough to keep things interesting . 600hp is nothing to sneeze at and the 6 speed and 4:10 s will move it along nicely.
