Tropical cyclones are the most powerful weather events that take place on the planet… with winds that can reach as much as 200 miles, or 322 kilometers per hour… but while this intensity affects how much damage and destruction one will cause, there’s another factor that needs to be taken into account too… their overall size. One of the smallest ever recorded, for example, was Cyclone Tracy in 1974 that was just 60 miles, or 100 kilometers across when it made landfall… and this gave a relatively narrow field of effect.
