This week I do my best Kamp Kenan impression and try to explain why keeping animals outside for the summer, especially keeping reptiles outside in the summer where the weather allows is the best way to go! Tortoises especially love being outside and it is so great for these shell bois to have natural UVB, room to roam and a more natural experience in their tortoise enclosure. My redfoots and cherry headed tortoises love living outside. Blue Tongued Skinks also have an amazing set of care requirements to be kept outside for several climates. BTS can be kept dry or humid depending on if you get an Indonesian Blue Tongue or Northern Blue Tongue. These guys love the natural UVB and air. Monitor lizards of all sizes and species do really well outside too! Think about how amazing keeping your large lizard in a super secure outside enclosure would benefit these massive animals! Monitors can thrive living in a much larger enclosure under the natural sun rays. The apatite stimulation and natural behavior is a joy to be seen. Tegus are another large lizard that do really well outside of your house in an enclosure built just for them. Argentine Black & White Tegus are the kings of outside enclosures and do really well. Jeweled Lacertas are a super underrated lizard species. I have kept my Lacerta outside for many years and love the way the environment makes him act. Overall keeping reptiles outside is amazing!
