Stepping Beyond: McRae Williams
This video was produced in partnership with lululemon men. Earlier this year, 27-year-old slopestyle skier McRae Williams qualified for his first Olympics, but his road to PyeongChang was not always smooth. Williams’ father died when he was 10, after which he settled into a pattern of negative thinking that held him back as a skier and a person. He couldn’t break through; he got in his own head, he never quite fulfilled his potential. It wasn’t until Williams learned to harness the power of mindfulness, visualization, and positive thinking that he started to get the results of which he’d always dreamed. Starting the winter of 2016/17 with a World Cup victory, Williams ripped off a series of wins and podium finishes that resulted in an X Games silver medal, the gold at the slopestyle World Championship, and the overall World Cup Crystal Globe for slopestyle. For Williams, his career started with his physical training and athleticism, but it evolved when he began to realize his mental strength.
