NIGHT OF THE RADISHES | STRANGE FESTIVAL OAXACA CITY MEXICO

While looking for things to do in Oaxaca City over Christmas, I found this strange and unique festival that happens every 23rd of December called Noche de Los Rabanos, or Night of the Radishes. It all started over 100 years ago when farmers would bring their vegetables to be sold at the Christmas Market in the Zocalo, also known as the main square. There were many Mexicans selling their goods there, and the competition was tough. One day one of the farmers thought "How can I get people to stop at my vegetable stand? " He began carving radishes to attract customers. The other saw this, and began to copy him. Each year they build larger and more extravagant sculptures and "Night of the Radishes" was born. These days, it has become quite a attraction in Oaxaca City. Thousands of people, mostly locals, wait hours in line to see over 100 exhibits.
