The GT86 platform is everywhere these days, but we still remember when it was brand new, and the excitement it brought to the tuner scene. In this entry of Gears and Gasoline, we compare a stock example of the dearly departed Scion FRS with a supercharged version of its sister car, the Subaru BRZ. One is a devoted show car with power and looks aplenty, the other a humble little sports car with a heart of gold, and they both make a strong case for the GT86 platform. Special thanks to Dan and Shane for providing their cars for us to film. Both were a total blast to drive, and this video wouldn’t have happened without you guys. Also a huge shoutout to our buddy Terrill, who spent his whole day helping us shoot. You re the man, dude. Editor’s Note: All the passing shots were filmed on a sparsely populated backroad with good sight-lines and at low speeds. We don’t condone unsafe driving. Be safe. Also, we erroneously referred to the engine in the FRS as the FA20. It is the FA20, but when it s in a Toyota car, it s the 4U-GSE.
