The opening was attended by the Minister of State for Culture, Monika Grütters, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Michael Müller, as well as the artistic director of the Berlinale, Carlo Chatrian and the managing director of the Berlin International Film Festival, Mariette Rissenbeek.
