Rickie Fowler and Butch Harmon show Golf Digest how to successfully make your way back to the fairway (in one shot) after hitting a shot into the woods. Transcript [Kevin] No way, you can t! Where s that guy who was in front of us? Where d he go? I have no clue. Is that him over there in the trees? [Kevin] Ah, stupid trees! Yeah, maybe we should go help him out. Yeah, no kidding. They got snakes over there? [Rickie] You ll be okay. It s go time. No! (shouting angrily) Just like that? Sorry about the wait, guys. Really had to thread the needle there. Yeah, looks like you almost took yourself out there, man. Yeah. You okay? No, no, yeah, I pulled it off. That s precision though, baby. Let s go get you cleaned up. Feel so alive! Really? You look like you re dead to me. (energetic music) Yeah, maybe we should go help him out. Yeah, no kidding. Guys, oh guys, guys! That s an interesting one, Rick. It is. I feel like I ve had some of my own experience in here. Sometimes it ends up being a very troublesome shot. I mean, that s one of the biggest things. Sometimes you can be aggressive about trees, but a lot of times, you just wanna get the ball back out in play. [Butch] What you re saying is you re just gonna actually try and pitch this ball back to the fairway. Yeah, exactly. You re just looking to find the easiest way out. Alright, let s see how you do it. Well, first, I d probably start here. With the grip. Choke it down a little. Little easier to stay on top of the ball, cover it, and have a little bit control over the flight. Low body s gonna stay pretty still because of being in the loose footing. Alright. You don t want to try and hit this too hard, then a bunch of stuff comes into play. In this pine straw, would you not ground your club because you d be afraid the ball s gonna move? I won t ground it, I ll keep it just to where it s maybe coming in contact Okay. with the pine straw. We ll set the feet up a little narrow and a little open, and then last thought, don t hit a tree. (lively music) Perfect. So the guys you play with in Pro Ams would take that philosophy, they d get out a lot better would they? Their percentage would be a lot better. I like that. (lively music) There you are. So you got the hang of it now? Totally. I can t thank you guys enough. Alright, let s see you go in and make a few swings. See what you got. Alright. Wish me luck. Yeah, we re gonna get out of here. Alright, we re gonna just, nice and easy. Here we go. There we don t! You think he s got it back there, Butch? [Kevin] No! He ll figure it out someday, don t worry about it.
