Lineolated Parakeets Goes to the Avian Vet Clinic

Lineolated Parakeet | Wizard is a Lineolated Parakeet also called a Linnie, Barred Parakeet or Catherine s Parakeet. Wizard is 10 years old. I noticed something sticking out of his feathers and had a closer look. It looked like a preen glad infection or a bite from another bird. I have never seen this on one of my birds before so a Vet visit was in order. When the vet first saw it she knew it was not the preen gland as the gland was not affected, she thought it looked more like a tumor. The vet took a sample with a fine needle and put it on a slide. The results showed cancer cells. The vet prescribed Wizard some pain and inflammatory medications along with antibiotic to see if the tumor would shrink. Unfortunate the tumor grew instead of shrinking. The cancer spread to more than half his body and Wizard health declined. He could not use his right leg and was lethargic and puffed up with his eyes closed. The vet and I decided that euthanizing him was the best choice instead of making him suffer. Wizard was Euthanized on March 6 2017 three weeks after his vet visit. The vet sent in a sample of the tumor to the lab to find out what kind of cancer. The results just came in as I post this video. Wizard had lymphoma. It was an aggressive cancer that was all over him inside and out. It was eating away at the dermal layer of his skin and his stomach. I am glad I did not let him suffer any longer. I will miss my sweet boy, he was my first Linnie. Merlin misses his preening buddy.
