New Voice Club (2001) - Throat cancer is a big killer in China. Surviving the cancer often means losing your voice box. In Hong Kong there s a rehab club with a difference - where former patients are teaching new ones to find their voice. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures To remove the tumour in a case of throat cancer, the larynx tends to have to come with it. But there are ways to regain one s voice again. The most common is the pneumatic artificial larynx, which uses a plastic tube in the tracheal hole; another is tracheoesophageal speech, which involves plugging the tracheal hole. Although the science is getting there, losing their voice is an emotionally traumatic experience for most patients, and that s where the new voice club steps in, lending support to these survivors.
