Formed in 1865, the U.S. Secret Service was originally created to find and destroy any counterfeit money after the American Civil War. It wasn’t until the assassination of President William Mckinley in 1901 that they were tasked with protecting the president, and even then, only two stood guard at a time. As their name would suggest, we don’t know everything about the Secret Service, but one thing is for sure: they serve a very unique and interesting purpose.
