Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/jesselaflairfanpage How to do a Side Flip ( Side Flip Tutorial ) with Jesse La Flair and Shane Daniels ( http://www.youtube.com/ShaneDaniels009 ) from Team Tempest. This is an very easy and detailed side flip tutorial. PLEASE LIKE & SHARE Like everything we do we must find progressions in our movement so that we can learn these moves safely and the right way instead of just hucking it and getting hurt. Prerequisite) Start with a barrel roll. When dealing with any sort of flip we must first get comfortable with the way it makes our bodies feel. This is known as spatial awareness and will grow with us the more we move. Side flip with buddy bent over... Side flip from higher up (NOT TO HIGH) about hip high into soft area like water, sand, then maybe grass. (This should give you a little more time in the air to get around and spot the ground) The more you practice the move, even into water, sand or mats, the more you are conditioning the muscles needed, building confidence and muscle memory. INSTRUCTIONS TO DO A SIDEFLIP: 1st) The Approach... Two options here, you can do the webster style sideflip or the gather step into it. (Some styles are eisier for some then others) Know that your run in will bring you out so your job is to get height. 2nd) Run in and step in sideways with your back foot blocking first and then bring the front foot infront of it. You should be leaning back a bit so that your foward energy gets blocked into the ground sending you up after you compress into your jump push off of the ground as fast and strong as you can while extending your body from the tips of your toes all the way past your shoulder and through to your hand up at about a 45 degree angle. A fuller body extension will enable the possibility to create a faster rotation because a higher transfer of energy and get you to travel higher. 3rd) After you have traveled up to about your max height (rotation should be at chest or head height), you will then bring your arm down and scoop under yourself bringing your knees in tight. The faster you can bring your legs in the faster you will rotate also the tighter you get your body the faster you will be able to rotate (Note: A very common mistake is to bring the arm down to soon and even before you leave the ground. Make sure that you are up in the air before doing so...) During the rotation you head stay neutral (equally between your shoulders) and should not be pushed in to your shoulder. 4th) As you start to finish your rotation spot the ground begin to untuck. The timing here will depend on a lot of factors like height, speed of tuck and others. So just try to be aware of your location in space also known as Spatial awareness.
