But a better question might be; are beginner reptiles good pets at all? Turns out some pet reptiles deemed easy reptiles to take care of might be a bit more difficult than you might expect. For example Tricolor hognose snakes are amazing snakes with their cute snake faces and they are rear fanged venomous snakes but do they make good pets for beginners? Sure, but don t get attached, they live very short lives. Tri0Color Hognose Snakes live usually 5 years or so making them egg producing machines. SO for breeding snakes, these hognose species are great, but they have a very short lifespan. Chinese Cave Geckos also make great pet lizards but they do have one small issue that might make them hard to keep for a beginner. They love high humidity at very low temps! This is unusual for a reptile species but can be overcome. Axolotls are amazing Salamanders and fully aquatic amphibians. I love this species and I bet you will too! They eat worms and other similar feeders. African Egg Eating Snakes eat... well, they eat eggs. But this might be an issue because finch eggs are harder to find for baby snakes than the quail eggs you d feed adults. Something to think about before getting these amazing snakes! Chameleons on the other hand are usually talked about as intermediate reptiles or expert reptiles because they are so fragile. Beautiful but not the easiest of pets!
