Cute Beagle Barking at Fireworks Noise

Cute Beagle Smudge was surprised by the sound of very noisy fireworks last Friday evening. (You may be able to hear them booming away, especially towards the end of the video). Her response was to bark enthusiastically at the sound. Smudge is very quick at raising the alarm when there is something a bit unusual and out-of-the-ordinary. If you love the sound of beagle dog barking, as we do, hopefully you will also like Smudge s very cute, loud, and quite ferocious beagle barks! A bit of background: Last weekend Matariki was celebrated here in Aotearoa New Zealand. In short, it is the traditional marking of the New Year by NZ Māori, in the heart of a Southern Hemisphere winter. This year was the first year it was also a public holiday weekend. As part of the festivities there was a fireworks display in the harbour when it got dark on Friday evening. Smudge is a morning beagle, so she is usually fast asleep on other fireworks occasions such as the January celebration of the New Year, or Guy Fawkes in November, when our daylight hours are so much longer and the fireworks don t start until much later in an evening. So there she was, just enjoying an evening nap by the fire....when all of a sudden came an unexpected and loud banging. We didn t see any of the fireworks display but we certainly knew when it was going on!
