And how is Putin’s invasion going to continue now that the temperatures have plummeted? While it’s always the easiest to look back and call these invasions stupid, it’s much harder to genuinely understand the arduous decision making processes and unpredictable contexts of their times. Napoleon, for example, still had the chance of obliterating the Russian defences at Smolensk and Borodino, the scorched-earth tactics may not have worked, and the winter after all was not what had defeated his Grand Armée.
