I Just realized this video from 6 years ago was set to private and I have no idea why... Tempest Freerunning received this email and had to act upon it. Well I know you guys are busy but life is about taking chances. I have learned that from my 14 yr old son, Malachi (aka..9 lives). Malachi is such an amazing boy. He is the oldest of 5 kids. We call him 9 lives because he has been hurt so many times, even faced death twice. He had pneumonia years ago that went undiagnosed until he was very sick. He cut his shin open to the bone skateboarding. He also had the skateboard flip up once and hit him under his groin, turning his area black. TMI maybe. Lol. After all of the illnesses and injuries he s had, he still went outside every afternoon and weekend to free run or do parkour. The worst was last Christmas. His thigh hurt at school and being that he is constantly moving, I did not think much of it. Two days later he was screaming in pain and could barely walk. He was mis-diagnosed for 7 days. He had 104 fever for over a week. As a mother it was terrifying that no one would help him. On day 8 he was admitted and they found he had staph in his hip joint. He could not walk. He was in excrutiating pain. He was on the brink of death. He was immediately rushed by ambulance to Childrens Hospital New Orleans. He went into emergency surgery within seconds of arriving. This was his first surgery and he was so scared. They cleaned the joint, and put him on I.v. antibiotics for weeks in the hospital. He then had a second surgery to put a picc line in through his arm into his heart. I had to administer my baby s I.v meds at home 3 times a day for a month. It took a long time for the infection to go down. We were told horror stories of one leg being shorter or less ability to use the leg. He did not walk for months. He missed school. Throughout the entire ordeal only once did he cry, or ask "why did this happen?" This was when I was carrying him at 13 yrs old to the shower. My son. My brave, sweet, strong son. Never did he act mad or embarrassed like I would have been. He was so courageous and sweet. I forgot to mention he is nearly 6 ft tall! So this is no average kid. He is well now. He limped for most of this last year. But, what I believe helped him heal was his love for freerunning. He from about 6 months post surgery has been outside every day and every weekend running up the sides of trees and flipping backwards, side flipping, jumping over fences and flipping over bushes, running up walls! He videos himself with his cheapy little cell phone and watches it back. He teaches himself by constantlyy watching your you tube videos! He now follows you on Instagram. It has almost been one year since his infection and he is doing so good. He gets sore, but he never let s anything stop him. I hear about Tempest constantly as it is all he talks about! He said you guys were in New Orleans right now and we are only 25 minutes away in Slidell, La. I just had to take the chance of writing you and hoping you can maybe give him a call or something just to encourage him and make this Christmas the one to remember with a happy memory... The email touched the hearts of the whole team and pro team members Jesse La Flair and Cory DeMeyers decided to take things to next level and really surprise 9 Lives with a Christmas he will never forget.
