Three years, and over 300 yoga videos published…how did I get so lucky? STORY TIME A couple days after I turned 30, I decided I wanted to create the best yoga videos anyone could find online, but, I didn’t know a thing about yoga…I needed instructors, and I needed them to be excited to put in a lot of time and hard work, and do it for free…crazy right? Back at the time, I was the night guy at a Hampton Inn, so I was very, very broke. I still remember that first year working the night shifts while trying to run yogatx. I’d get home at 7:00 am after working all night, catch a few z’s till about 11:00 am, go film with Lauren or Cole for 4 hours or so, then come back home to try to get some rest before work again. I was a man obsessed. Anyhow, since I didn’t have any money to start a business, I maxed out my credit cards, bought some cameras, some lights, and off I went to find instructors who were willing to work for free. Well, what I thought would hinder this project, actually ended up working to OUR advantage. Since, I didn’t have any money to pay instructors, I decided I would make them producers of their own videos. What people may not know about the channel, is that, the instructors you watch here get paid a percentage of revenue earned from the ads in each of their videos. So, watching & sharing IS a great way to show support to your favorite instructor :D We’re not going to get rich off of these videos(I still haven’t paid off those credit cards yet), but, without even seeing it at the time, I created a system where everyone saw that they get out, EXACTLY what they put in to their videos. So, its been absolutely exciting to know that everyone who shows up, REALLY WANTS to be here, and really, that makes for the best, and most authentic content. Now, we get more requests from instructors wanting to be featured on the channel, and more requests from your favorite instructors to come back and film more, than we have resources for, and we see that we might be in the midst of something really beautiful here. The reason I do what I do is because, as an artist, I see that: learning yoga, like learning an art, or another language, can only make your life better. I wanted to share this to thank everyone; my team, my mom, Sandra, family & friends, Jim Butler, for believing in what I was trying to create. I thought I had found a way out of sales when I started yogatx, but I had actually put myself in the hardest position in the entrepreneurial world, trying to sell a vision. Thanks for believing in what I saw! And to say a deep ‘Thank You,’ to all the people in our yogatx community. YOGATX is my world. All I do is work on this channel and get to be with my family and friends, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m not a producer, or a manager, or anything like that, I’ve always hated those types of things…I’m just a dude obsessed with creating.
