We had the chance to experience the amazing and unique Balti cuisine and culture while staying at the Khaplu Palace, as well as the amazing Pakistani hospitality. We had an amazing breakfast spread with specialty Balti dishes prepared by the in-house chef. Sitting on the terrace at sunrise was beautiful and the food was delicious. After breakfast we toured the entire fort which is a museum itself, and learned the history of the palace, mid 19th century lifestyle and relics used by the Royal Family. We were sat in the beautiful gardens of the Palaceās courtyard to enjoy another spread of tasty Balti food. The village in the valley below is worth exploring, including the 800-year-old Chaqchan Mosque. Late in the afternoon, we enjoyed the traditional Khaplu high-tea with local Balti snacks and thyme tea on another terrace with priceless views of the sunset! We would like to thank the wonderful staff at Serena Khaplu Palace for welcoming us and letting us experience the best of Baltistanās culture, food and people. We wished we could have stayed longer to experience the surrounding valleys and mountains, and the multi-day treks in the Karakoram range to world-famous mountains that are some of the tallest in the world. We highly recommend staying at the Serena Khaplu Palace. You will be in good hands and very comfortable when visiting the area. We would also like to extend our thank you to Manaky for making this trip possible.
