http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Two of Australia s best hard enduro riders, Tim Coleman and Ruben Chadwick, are out for a ride on Ruben s practice track. We chat with the guys about their racing, and get to see a lap of Tim Coleman chasing Ruben Chadwick around his new enduro loop. And here is Ruben s new enduro loop. It s completely new to Tim Coleman lets see how he goes. Tim also says he really appreciates his trials background but needs to work on his speed. But when I see them whipping their bikes along this narrow track it s hard to believe that speed is one of their weaknesses. Tim Coleman has also learned some skills from the motocross guys and it looks as though it has paid off. We are coming up to a superslick wet rocky section that apparently is similar to a lot of the European hard enduros. We asked Tim how tough are those overseas events. We asked Tim Coleman about his first ever ride in the Erzberg extreme enduro. Like most of the extreme enduro riders in Europe, Tim and Ruben Chadwick are both using Goldentyre. We asked Ruben what he usually runs on his bike. All the best for the future guys, whether it s Aussie or overseas events. Extreme enduro has taken off internationally the past few years, in part due to the fascination we have with the incredible bike control the top extreme enduro riders have. A common theme that stands out for almost every top extreme enduro rider is they are former expert trials riders, and cut their teeth on extremely challenging terrain and ultra light weight bikes. The past few years Graham Jarvis has been the king of the extreme enduro world, and we ve even started our own religion based on his teachings. We even got to ask his holiness for some riding tips. It s bloody expensive to ship our bikes to Britian for Graham to train them, so instead we opted to learn his riding techniques ourselves. Now you might think this is a particularly stupid thing to do for a bunch of average riders already in their 50s. And you would be right. But we have very small brains so first we bought trials bikes to relearn the fundamentals of bike control at a local trials club, then started applying the same techniques to our dirt bikes. Some research unearthed heaps of useful tips from riders like Graham Jarvis... In fact, most of these guys will say the key to learning to ride fast is first slow down and get your fundamental techniques right. We became addicted to watching extreme enduro vids and found this both inspiring and deflating to watch riders like Jarvis, Walker and Birch doing the impossible so easily.
