Grand Teton Climb without Ropes in One Day!
Climbing the Grand Teton in one push from the parking lot. It was a perfect day to climb, the temps were warm, no wind and I heard all the ice was melted out on the Owen Spaulding route, so I went for it. The scariest part of the climb is watching out for verglas, which is clear ice that forms on the rock from water seeping out, that looks like its dry rock. You can be walking normally and all of a sudden slip and fall to your death. You always want to make sure you have good footing before trusting your steps. I made it from the parking lot, about 7.4 miles, 7,000 vert in 4:21 hours! (although my personal record is 3:30) Free soloing is super fun because you don t get slowed down with ropes and gear, but it s important to know your ability and trust you are able to make the moves to get back down before attempting to go up something. I have been climbing in the Tetons for 10+ years and all my life, so I am confident in my ability. You should never attempt this without the required skills.
