In this video a rear main seal is removed from a Ford Ranger. Many one piece seals have a similar removal and installation process. If an oil leak is noticed between the back of the engine block and the front of the transmission, where they connect, it may be a leaking rear main seal. The purpose of the seal is to contain the engine oil at the back of the crankshaft. Other oil leaks can sometimes appear to be a rear main seal so proper diagnosis is important. Oil pressure sensors, leaking valve cover and oil pan gaskets are some areas to check beforehand. The transmission has to be removed to do this repair so there can be a lot of labor involved. This truck has 139K miles on it and was getting a new clutch installed so this was the time to get it done right. My mistake was thinking the camera was running while installing the new seal, sorry it wasn t. My apologizes to you.
