Reaching speeds up to 18 MPH, the Peringuey’s Adder, or sidewinder snake, slithers rapidly along the desert dunes at intimidating speeds. Sidewinding is the fastest way to get around and reduces contact with the burning sand. But, the way this venomous snake buries itself in the sand, and waits to attack its prey, is even scarier. #SmithsonianChannel #Snakes
