Breaking par or breaking 70 requires a lot of mental strength especially on the tough holes. Holes 7 through to 15 are quite tough indeed and I had some struggles. Never give up - as long as you keep believing in yourself and following your process, you ll score lower 2. Sometimes bogey is good enough. Hole 11 at Dynasty is not a good hole for me and being happy with a bogey on a hole hat i get a stroke on takes a lot of pressure off. Once that pressure is off, maybe I could even score better than that? 3. Listen to your gut. If your body and brain is feeling great with a certain shot shape with certain clubs, FOLLOW THE INSTINCT! Don t override what you know is best. 4. If you change your mind about your shot, and you re in the PLAY BOX, stop immediately, move back to the THINK BOX and redesign the shot. If you doubt or fear in the PLAY BOX, you re sure to screw it up royally. 5. You only need to focus for 10 seconds on every shot. For 80 shots in a round, that s 800 seconds of focus, which translates to less than 15 minutes of total focus. The other 4 hours out there...go on mental vacations. MENTAL VACATIONS: Let your mind wander to a happy place for you. It could be anything. For me, I like to think of my other hobby, birdwatching and particularly birdwatching with my dad. I also like to imagine the food my girlfriend will have made by the time I get home. It s so relaxing and allows me to truly smile and enjoy being outdoors instead of worrying about the next shot or the previous one. Stay in the moment on each shot, otherwise, do literally ANYTHING else besides think of your shot. Your reality is in your head on the golf course and your language is important. Use negative language and you ll instruct your brain to do what you don t want it to do. Stay positive not only in attitude but in language and your brain will start associating and produce swings and shots you re meant to hit. DISCLAIMER: I hate swing mechanic advice. The only time you can give swing mechanic advice is to a person who is in a relaxed state at that very moment. Each moment is unique. Your mindset, attitude and inner thoughts produce your swings, not your mechanics. I can show you a swing where I hit it 320 yards and then I can show you the shot I hit on 10 in this video and the only differences are in the head....commitment and confidence. A swing is a manifestation of your mind and that s why a great player can duff a chip, hook a shot when he is a fader and miss a one footer but drain 10 footers all day. THINK & PLAY BOX 1. Stand behind the ball and create the shot in your mind 2. Visualize every detail of it 3. Feel the shot in your practice strokes 4. Commit commit commit commit 5. Cross the DECISION LINE which separates the THINK and PLAY BOXES. By this stage, your mind is made up. NO GOING BACK NOW. 6. Move into the PLAY BOX and THINK OF NOTHING. Look at your target and execute the hot you commitment to 1 second ago. EXECUTE! HIT! 7. If you have doubt or fear, move back to the THINK BOX and restart the process. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SAID "I should have stepped back"? WELL! START DOING IT and SAVE SHOTS NOOOOWWWWW. music by audionautix.com
