Multan is an ancient city in the centre of Pakistan, with a boisterous history. It is famous for The Multan Fort (an ancient fortified city built on a mound that had been destroyed), it’s historical tombs & shrines, and characteristic blue pottery handicrafts. Aside from Multan’s iconic monuments, it is also home to some unique Multani dishes found nowhere else in Pakistan. We’re here for a night street food tour, showing you the BEST street foods to try in Multan. We met up with some local friends from Multan who were hungry and excited to share their recommendations. Our first stop was to try Multan’s famous chops. The cooking process is what makes Multan’s chops special. The marinated chops are first fried in oil. Then, the chops are grilled over smokey charcoal. This process creates an extremely juicy and smokey chop. Our next stop was to try traditional Multani Sohan Halwa. Multan’s halwa is famous all across Pakistan, and at Ahmad Multani Sohan Halwa, you’re getting the best in the city. It is made with sugar, wheat or cornflour, milk and ghee, and is cooked until it becomes a solid. Then, pistachios, walnuts and almonds are crushed on top and cardamon is added. We also had the chance to try a few other traditional desserts like barfi and falooda. For our final stop on our night time street food tour was Baba Ice Cream. This place was still packed with hungry locals late into the night. Their ice cream is homemade with very high quality ingredients, like fresh cow milk. They have a few special flavours on the menu, and we tried their pista (pistachio), garnished with different nuts on top. Homemade ice cream tends to be much creamier and silky, and no additional sugar is added so it feels nice and light. A BIG thank you to our friends in Multan, Pakistan for showing us delicious Multani street food!
