In the semi-finals, "The Thunder From Down Under" Neil Robertson defeated Ali Carter 17-12 and Graeme Dott beat Mark Selby 17-14. Neil Robertson won the final 18-13, becoming the first Australian in the modern era to win the title. Neil Robertson, losing in the second round to Martin Gould with a score of 0:6 and 5:11, eventually managed to snatch a victory with a score of 13:12. Neil Robertson became the first Australian to reach the World Cup final in 35 years. In 1975, Eddie Charlton also reached the final of the championship, but lost to Ray Reardon with a score of 30:31. Neil also became the first Australian representative to win the championship since 1952, when Horace Lindrum achieved such success. Neil Robertson became the second left-handed player in Crucible history to win the World Championship (after Mark Williams).
