The morning brings temps into the -40oC, but doesn t slow up the bite as we hook into several small stocked splake. We find that our holes have frozen solid as expected and chip out using the ice saw. The morning brings on a pretty strong fish bite and the rest of the day is spent trying to stay warm over fire. I also test out my brand new gigantic hobo stove which I designed for cooking while winter ice fishing. Turns out, that it works quite well. We eat plenty of venison, rice, and even some veggies. - we eat well! Watch to find out if our minnow trap proved successful. We didn t close out the day very well, but we ended up with 6 small-ish splake that all looked like they were from this year. Not sure why they were so small. Could be a low productivity year...but usually those splake would be 12+ inches or so after have spend 6 months in the lake. Still comparable to trout from a small stream, so that s okay, they all eat the same. Silky Saws (special order Katanaboy): https://outlandsupplycompany.com/ The saw used in the video is the silky katanaboy.
