We will follow around young german astronaut Alexander Gerst, who became the third german to travel to the international space station. For his cosmic adventure he has to complete the worlds most exclusive training program. First of all he completes a survival training at the NASA virtual reality lab. There, he gets confronted with an astronauts worst nightmare - to lose hold of the cosmic space station. Alexander Gerst will fly to the ISS in 2014 along with US-Astronaut Reid Weiseman. "Cosmic Encounters” tells one of mankind’s oldest dreams: to explore what is beyond our planet. For the first time in TV history a documentary has been filmed in 3D in space by the astronauts of the International Space Station. It is a tribute to the many scientists who made the dream of conquering space come true.
