65 million years ago, dinosaurs were wiped out by a gigantic asteroid. What if such an asteroid would strike our planet again? This special episode is about the preparation of the people and their evacuation in the case of a comet impact. Scientists already have thought through how people would react in such a situation. The fictional scenes depicting people experiencing the comet strike take place shortly before the comet hits the earth. In the case of a comet striking, he countries borders will be closed and a state of emergency will be declared. Strategic reserves will be for national use only. When it comes to evacuation of threatened regions, there‘ no historical predecent of a whole state itself and it‘s people. Individuals will be evacuated on their own initiative. Besides of that, many evacuation plans work perfectly in theory – but even evacuating a whole city can end in chaos. If it comes to preparation for the impact of natural catastrophes, scientific research states that people who are older, have a higher income and have an internal locus of control are more likely to be well prepared. People with an external locus of control, who thought things would happen because of faith, were less likely to prepare. #supercomet #fulldocumentary #spaceandastronomy ---- This channel offers you full episodes of high quality documentaries. Become a witness of Alexander Gersts Cosmic adventure to space! Everything around this cosmic mission begun in Houston, Texas, at the Johnson Space Center. We will follow around young german astronaut Alexander Gerst, who became the third german to travel to the international space station. For his cosmic adventure he has to complete the worlds most exclusive training program. First of all he completes a survival training at the NASA virtual reality lab. There, he gets confronted with an astronauts worst nightmare - to lose hold of the cosmic space station. Alexander Gerst will fly to the ISS in 2014 along with US-Astronaut Reid Weiseman. "Cosmic Encounters” tells one of mankind’s oldest dreams: to explore what is beyond our planet. For the first time in TV history a documentary has been filmed in 3D in space by the astronauts of the International Space Station. It is a tribute to the many scientists who made the dream of conquering space come true. Our guides on this voyage are the astronauts André Kuipers, who filmed on board, and Alexander Gerst, whose demanding training for the 2014 mission is recorded at the Johnson Space Center. #cosmicencounters #spaceandastronomy #documentary ---- This channel offers you full episodes of high quality documentaries. 65 million years ago, dinosaurs were wiped out by a gigantic asteroid. What if such an asteroid would strike our planet again? Scientists already have thought through the consequences of this catastrophe. This special episode is about the long-term consequences of such an asteroid hitting the earth. With the comet striking, vapor condences into small particles which reenter the atmosphere all over the world. This produces a massive layer of dust, hindering the sunlight to reach the earth‘s surface. The entire earth sinks into darkness. All plant life dies out as a result of the lack of sunlight. The once fertile earth becomes a desert. Months after the disaster, the climate becomes dryer and the continents freeze over. The carbonate rock and sea water the comet smashed in injected aerosol into the atmosphere. The haze persists in the atmosphere long after the dust has settled. Drawing moisture from the atmosphere, polar Icecaps grow ever langer. #supercomet #spaceandastronomy #documentary ---- This channel offers you full episodes of high quality documentaries. Water is a precious resource that sustains life, but its delicate balance is now threatened by the pressing issue of climate change. Driven by the accumulation of greenhouse gases, primarily from human activities like burning fossil fuels and deforestation, climate change has far-reaching consequences. One of the most visible and concerning outcomes is the rising sea levels. As Earth s temperature increases, polar ice sheets and glaciers melt, and seawater expands due to higher temperatures, causing oceans to encroach upon coastal areas. This sea level rise threatens coastal communities, delicate ecosystems, and vital infrastructure, intensifying the frequency and severity of coastal flooding, storm surges, and erosion. Urgent action to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, alongside innovative adaptation strategies, is essential to curb sea level rise and safeguard our planet s coasts for current and future generations. In order for us to be effectively cured of diseases, animal testing is still done in laboratories. But is there an alternative to animal testing and can we do without animal testing? Animals like mice or rats suffer in our laboratories during animal testing. Drugs or cosmetics are tested on them. Many people are therefore horrified by animal testing, which is carried out on around two million animals per year in Germany. Scientists, however, consider animal testing to be necessary in order to research and cure diseases. Therefore, it is and remains an ethical question whether we are allowed to experiment with animals for our own benefit. Our documentary shows whether there is an alternative to animal testing and what it might look like. #animaltesting #laboratory #documentary ---- The universe is vast, much like our imagination. The idea of cyborgs living among us is clearly science-fiction, or is it not? Kevin Warwick, Professor and Cyberneticist, tried something nobody had ever done before. Besides his day job, where he is designing robots, he had the idea to make machine and human merge. He created the first cyborg in the person of himself. Scientists are close to a revolution: the seamless integration of man and machine through Neurochips implanted directly into the brain. Their aim is to improve our performance and correct malfunctions. Today we already have electronic retinas and hearing implants; and tomorrow? The cyborg - inventions of modern medicine are saving lifes, espacially neurochips implanted in brains. Since the first inventions of Luigi Volta in 1787, scientists are trying to develop neurochips that can control muscles. But today, contracting muscles is not longer the problem of medical engineers. In our brains are about 100.000.000 nerv cells. The language of our brain is based on bioelectric impulses. To receive these signals the brain needs to be connected to our senses and neurochips in our brain can overtake this job if needed. Astronauts travelling into space. The moon, our nocturnal companion, fascinates us to this day. American astronauts were the first to land on the moon. It drove science so far that for the first time, humans overcame the limits of the Earth and sent Astronauts to an unknown world in space. A lot has happened since then, and it is now possible to imagine colonies of astronauts on the moon. If you want to find out if living on the moon is possible, watch this documentary about Astronauts and the magic of our universe! ---- The universe is vast, much like our imagination. Europe s agriculture is an environmental disaster in many places and continues to drive climate change. Despite this, agriculture continues to be subsidized by the EU. Landscape, climate and biodiversity suffer from the effects of monoculture. Hectares of nature are being cleared to feed humanity worldwide. The deep sea – the biggest single habitat on Earth, marked by eternal darkness, icy temperatures and immense pressure. This gripping 50-minute film follows the biologists Christian Lott and Nicole Dubilier into the inhospitable depths of the ocean in pursuit of new species and groundbreaking discoveries. What they find is truly revolutionary: a mussel capable of using hydrogen to feed itself – something previously thought impossible. It opens up new possibilities for life, not just on Earth, but even in space where hydrogen is a common element.
