65 million years ago, dinosaurs were wiped out by a gigantic asteroid. What if such an asteroid would strike our planet again? Scientists already have thought through the consequences of this catastrophe. This special episode is about the long-term consequences of such an asteroid hitting the earth. With the comet striking, vapor condences into small particles which reenter the atmosphere all over the world. This produces a massive layer of dust, hindering the sunlight to reach the earth‘s surface. The entire earth sinks into darkness. All plant life dies out as a result of the lack of sunlight. The once fertile earth becomes a desert. Months after the disaster, the climate becomes dryer and the continents freeze over. The carbonate rock and sea water the comet smashed in injected aerosol into the atmosphere. The haze persists in the atmosphere long after the dust has settled. Drawing moisture from the atmosphere, polar Icecaps grow ever langer. #supercomet #spaceandastronomy #documentary ---- This channel offers you full episodes of high quality documentaries.
