Jeff Salzenstein, Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, performs a tennis serve breakdown from a high level player, where he shares a simple tip to improve your serve balance. Jeff will also show you a couple of cool tricks that are going to help take your serve to the next level in real time. Here’s a summary from Jeff’s detailed tennis serve analysis: From a strategy standpoint, he’s standing away from the T which will allow him to get more angle in the deuce court. Jeff considers that he can improve his stance by having his back foot parallel to the baseline. This will help him to effectively turn his shoulders and properly coil his hips. Next, it’s important to note where the player lands after contacting the ball. He’s jumping way too far to the left, and that’s a common problem Jeff has seen when players try to hit topspin serves. Instead, when you toss the ball left, focus on landing in line to where your front foot was at the beginning. You can place a cone just in front of the service line, and use it as a reference point to work on your balance. Keep in mind that this movement requires solid athleticism as well as great mobility and stability on your spine. Finally, Jeff suggests becoming more aware of the way you land after the serve. The cone drill will help improve your balance and allow you to develop a better tennis serve.
