"Puddle Lake" Expedition (part 3 of 9): The Early Bird, New Camp & BushCrafts
This morning brought a bounty - a creel full of native speckled trout. What started off slow, turned into a ravenous feed by the local native brook trout. As if all of a sudden, the activity turned and fish were striking everything including my float. While the boys slept, I enjoyed the best of "Puddle Lake." It produced a generous breakfast. By simply casting a worm suspended by a float into the rings produced by feeding trout, I was able to settle the score on a handful of fish at day break. With further exploration, we discover a more hospitable camp site. We also find further hints of man with some discarded containers and lures. We make an executive decision to pull up stakes from our first camp and relocated. I decide to hang back at the original camp so as to avoid the snoring. We examine the stomach contents in order to determine what the fish are feeding on. We also go over the gutting and preparation of fish and whether the heads should be kept on or removed. Our break from fast is met with a trout buffet, after which Jeremy fashions a spigot for the spring.
