We need way bigger enclosure than are usually accepted and we need to do better. For example the recommended Ball Python enclosure size is usually 40 gallons or 75 gallons. This is insane, both of those enclosure sizes are way too small! We need to think about keeping Ball Pythons in 120 Gallon enclosures and giving them more than a paper substrate and a water bowl. Monitor lizard keepers often can be the worst offenders of animal neglect. Keeping a large lizard in an enclosure barely it s own body length is unacceptable! Some Monitor Enclosures I see on forums though are absolutely amazing and we should all strive to give our animals as much room as possible. Aquatic turtle tank are often too small too. If you see a Red Eared Slider started kit tank it is often 40 gallons which again is far too small! I could not be happier with my Mississippi map turtle tank and Yellow Bellied Slider tank. A 150 Gallon Turtle Tank isn t super difficult to take care of and makes a great show piece in your home. Green Iguanas also are kept in ridiculously small enclosures sometimes. I think we can do much better and I love to see these amazing, large, often custom made reptile enclosures for their Iguanas. Of course the king of way too small enclosures, Bearded Dragons. Let s stop keeping Bearded Dragons in 40 gallon tanks or 75 gallon enclosures.
