Supersets are back-to-back exercises on repeat, with minimal rest in between. In this case the workout is divided into 2 circuits -- lower body and upper body. Making this a FULL BODY, 30-Minute Dumbbell HIIT Workout. We ll repeat each exercise x 3 sets (repetition is how we build muscle), decreasing the timed interval "work period" as the workout progresses and our muscles fatigue. That s where the 40-30-20 workout format comes in. We ll perform each exercise for 40 seconds work during the first set, 30 seconds work during the second set, and 20 seconds work during the third set. I love this format, because it allows you to GO HEAVY and reach for weights that really challenge you! I recommend 10-20 lbs depending on your fitness level. ► INSTRUCTIONS: Follow along with the video at the top of this post, or work off the exercises below at your own pace. We will superset the lower body exercises first, then the upper body. You ll repeat each circuit x3 sets, performing each exercise for: SET 1: 40 seconds work, 20 seconds rest SET 2: 30 seconds work, 15 seconds rest SET 3: 20 seconds work, 10 seconds rest.
