Easy Forehand Power with One Simple Trick - Tennis Forehand Lesson Producing easy power on the tennis forehand is an art. You need to be able to sync the major muscles, in order to create explosive power with the body. When it comes to producing more power on any tennis shot, it all comes down to creating more racket head speed. The faster your racket travels through the contact zone, the more power you will have. On the tennis forehand, this means using the major muscles that will help you create that extra fast racket. Easy Forehand Power One of the best ways to create easy forehand power is to use the rubber band effect. Think about a slingshot. You pull the band back, which stores a lot of explosive energy and then you release it. We can also apply this concept to the forehand, using the trunk muscles as the rubber band. The trunk muscles, in particular the oblique muscles, are responsible for rotating the upper body. If you stand straight and turn to your right or left and touch your core muscles, you ll feel them working. In order to create this rubber band effect on our forehand, we have to coil the upper body at the start of the forehand swing. By coiling the upper body, you re now storing explosive energy in the trunk muscles, and when you uncoil, you ll produce plenty of racket head speed simply from the core. By using the major muscles in the body, such as the legs, the core, and the chest, you ll be able to create huge forehand power.
