This practice begins building heat with sun salutations, core exercises, and mobility work for the hips and shoulders and then goes through standing poses to strengthen, stretch and tone the legs, and build core strength. The class ends with abdominal exercises, backbends, and hip openers and twists to leave you feeling refreshed and energized. I also introduce the preparation for salamba sarvangasana, or shoulder stand. This inversion is an important inversion to master before any of the others including headstand, handstand and forearm stand. However it's extremely risky for the neck, so I recommend anyone with a history of cervical compression avoids this pose.
