"Puddle Lake" Expedition (part 5 of 9): Primitive Cooking Trout, Ticks & Aging Fish
This day begins with a battle for breakfast. We get into some perch and a few brookies to supplement the calories we burned to track them down. At the end of the fish I go over the most productive way to get fish - naked worms and spinners. I also discuss what s holding the lake back - the spiny fish. Jayson demonstrates how to cook fish primitively with nothing more than a stick (skewer). Then Jeremy puts together a figure four dead fall trap just for fun and demonstration. We also get into moose or winter ticks which evolves into a full body search. Next we make an age estimate on the brook trout using the rings on the otoliths so we can judge the productivity of the lake. On the next episode we do more exploring by heading into the next section of the creek system....stay tuned.
