I knew we had mold in our basement, but I didn t know how extensive the problem would be when I opened up the basement wall next to the exterior door where water has been leaking into our basement for years. Thankfully, the problem wasn t TOO bad, but still required an extensive repair. See how I did DIY mold removal in my basement, installed new insulation, installed a new basement exterior door (because the old one was rotted along the frame), and replaced the drywall. I also painted the walls a gorgeous Temperate Taupe. NOTE: Take precautions when dealing with mold. Wear the appropriate masks rated for mold spores. Turn off your HVAC system to prevent spreading mold spores around your home. Call a professional to help if you need it! :) NOTE: Use a stud-finder and other necessary tools to make sure you re not cutting into wires or pipes. Turn off electricity first if necessary for cutting in your drywall. #thriftdiving #ad A big thanks to Arrow Fastener for sponsoring the new insulation and drywall part of this project! //SKIP AROUND// 0:38 - Why we have basement mold. 1:20 - Mold removal with bleach and water. 1:49 - Snapping a chalk line and cutting drywall. 2:10 - Finding the mold! 3:14 - Cutting out damaged bottom plate of the wall framing. 4:29 - Cleaning the mold from the basement stairwell. 5:20 - Sealing the bulkhead door that leaks. 6:34 - Removing the old rotted door slab and jamb. 7:39 - Nailing in replacement pressure treated wood pieces. 8:40 - Problems with removing and replacing the exterior door. 11:02 - Removing and replacing old doorway framing. 11:53 - Leaving a secret message! 12:38 - Filling the gaps around the exterior basement door. 13:14 - Replacing the insulation. 15:43 - Replacing the drywall. 17:00 - Sanding and painting. 17:30 - Nailing trim. 17:43 - YAY!
