Is it a blasphemy or just a mere sacrilege? LOL! No, Tchaikovsky DOESN T WORK for piano solo. Consider it a study aid, OK? Second movement suffers less , mainly because it can sound a bit ridiculous with any but a great orchestra - , a torture the first pizzicato chords are , that super difficult syncopated section with two solo instruments, high-flying middle part which in hands of inexperienced conductor can turn from a waltz into tarantella :-) It was just a training run-through after all...
