Chaichana is a bull elephant going into the musth cycle, a natural occurrence for male elephants when testosterone levels surge and they become aggressive It’s completely natural. That day I began by playing soothing pieces to Chaichana, as I normally do, as he usually likes them, but he didn’t take much notice and wandered around instead. I was going to call it a day when I decided to play the Bach fugue I was working on - just to see what happened, expecting Chaichana to take no notice at all. I played it a number of times and, to my surprise, each time he just stayed very close next to the piano and seemed to be listening. On one play-though he got so close be nudged the piano with his trunk and almost knocked it over onto me but, judging by his surprised reaction, it seemed unintentional. After this video I took him to the river, he cooled down and gobbled up several baskets of water melons, bananas and yams. * All elephants in my blog “Piano for Elephants” are free, untethered and can wander away from the piano if they wish to do so. Music: Bach Fugue 16 from WTC book 2. For those that like to support the projects of online creators from as little as 1$ a month: https://www.patreon.com/paulbarton
