In this tennis lesson, Jeff Salzenstein shows an advanced backhand footwork pattern to improve your approach shots and transition to the net like the pros. He breaks it down step by step so that you can develop rhythm on your movement and generate more momentum on your groundstrokes when the ball is in the strike zone. 0:00 Advanced Backhand Footwork Pattern: Tennis Lesson - Intro 2:30 The lift and land footwork pattern 7:35 One handed footwork pattern 8:08 Bonus Tennis Footwork Tip 10:52 More from Tennis Evolution and Link for FREE MEMBERSHIP Jeff has not seen many tennis coaches and players discuss the proper backhand footwork pattern to use when approaching the net, especially when the ball is in the middle of the court. In fact, he considers that most players prefer to use their slice backhand on this particular shot. In 2017, Roger Federer started to attack more with his one handed topspin backhand when coming into the net. He began to use the lift and land footwork pattern to effectively win more points against the best players in the world. To practice the lift and land footwork pattern on the backhand side ensure to follow these steps. First, keep your front knee bent, then make contact with the ball, next hop with your front foot, and after take a big step forward to cover a lot of ground. If you’re unable to jump consider using the carioca or run through footwork patterns. Jeff also thinks that your backhand swing should be shorter in terms of the follow through by stopping the finish sooner and keeping your arms in front. Moreover, he recommends keeping your head and chest down as you make contact with the ball. To summarise, Jeff suggests using your slice backhand less when approaching the net. Instead, he encourages you to drive your backhand more by practicing and using the lift and land footwork pattern. The key is to move through shots with balance instead of getting set and simply using your arms. This footwork pattern will make a huge difference in your tennis game, and allow you to take it to the next level.
