Why Is Djokovic s Backhand So Good? (IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS) Novak Djokovic has one of the greatest two-handed backhands of all time, and we can all learn a lot from this shot. Download our FREE backhand guide here - https://www.top-tennis-training.com/free-guide/ In this tennis lesson, coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training will analyse the Novak Djokovic s two-handed backhand and show you precisely what you can copy from this wonderful shot. Djokovic s Backhand Grip Novak uses the standard two-handed backhand grip, which is the eastern forehand grip with his top hand (left-hand) and the continental grip with the bottom hand (right-hand). This gives the player the ideal position with both hands to create topspin but also flatten out the backhand. Early Preparation Novak Djokovic rarely seems to be late on the ball, and one of the biggest reasons for this is the fact that Novak prepares as early as possible. On his two-handed backhand, this means that as soon as he recognizes the ball is coming to his backhand side, he coils the upper body, pivots the left foot and starts the backswing. Racket Head Up From the very start of the Djokovic backhand, the racket head is higher than the grip (handle) which creates leverage in the arms and racket. Leverage basically equals more force over the ball. Imagine a hammer hitting a nail. Power Perfection Djokovic reaches the perfect power position on his two-handed tennis backhand. The key elements include having the body side on to the net (Djokovic s backhand turns towards the net), the chin is above his right shoulder, the racket head is higher than the grip level and his body weight is on the back leg (when using the neutral or semi-closed stances). Contact Point On The Two-Handed Backhand Djokovic makes contact out in front of his body, with his left arm extending through the ball during the strike zone. Uncoiling The Body Djokovic s backhand is so efficient because is body uncoils so smoothly after the contact point. His body pivots around the front foot (right) and the hips uncoil fully, which helps him recover quicker. Djokovic finishes his backhand with the racket head resting above and over the right shoulder.
