What looks like a bridge here was actually an aqueduct from Roman times. An aqueduct is a structure that was used to transport water from one place to another. For this purpose, gravity and slope are exploited. For 500 years, the Pont du Gard was used to transport water from Uzès to Nîmes. The Pont du Gard is unique in being the only example of a three-story ancient bridge still standing today. Built in the first century AD, the Pont du Gard is 49 meters high and 275 meters long.
