With this work, the young Beethoven impressed both as a pianist and as a composer. Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 Ludwig van Beethoven created his Piano Concerto No. 1, when he was primarily known as a keyboard virtuoso. The pianist, composer and theorist Abbé Vogler praised Beethoven’s ‘splendid power and bravura’ as well as his ‘fluent finger work, subtlety and intense sensitivity’. In his First Piano Concerto, Beethoven was able to reveal the full extent of his exuberant pianism. He also commanded respect as a composer, because he had filled the First Piano Concerto with musical surprises. Lars Vogt, pianist Lars Vogt made his first solo appearance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1997, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 under Christian Thielemann. Since the German pianist won second prize in the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition, he has given numerous concerts and recitals in Europe, Asia and the United States. In 1998 he founded the Spannungen Festival in the German town of Heimbach. Lars Vogt is also a gifted and well-respected teacher.
