Jeff Salzenstein shares three ways to improve your tennis forehand approach as he breaks down a point play between two tennis players. These are the nuances that will help you to elevate your tennis level faster, so that you can dominate against this type of opponent. Instead, Jeff suggests moving around your backhand quicker and hitting the ball at its peak on the short ball. He also advises using the buggy whip forehand finish to deal with this specific type of ball. Finally, Jeff encourages you to use a lift and land or front foot hop footwork pattern. To attack a short forehand efficiently, Jeff prefers using an outside leg footwork pattern. Moreover, he also teaches his students to open up the court by playing a short angle forehand on this short ball. In the lift and land footwork pattern, you’ll slightly lift your front foot off the ground and kick back the other leg for counterbalance. This will give you the momentum to move forward and move more efficiently on the court. In terms of technique, Jeff recommends finishing with your hand above the head when dealing with a slice ball that has no pace on it. This buggy whip finish will help you to get more consistency on this type of approach shots. When you’re playing against a righty, Jeff recommends using a tennis forehand inside out approach, and an inside in forehand when competing against a lefty.
