Now, hypothalamus has 2 options, either to activate the sympathetic nervous system which regulates the fight or flight response, or activate the parasympathetic nervous system which is responsible for restfulness and digestion. Now, as the response was of danger, fight or flight system gets activated which in turn signals the release of adrenaline. Adrenaline increases breathing rate, elevates our blood pressure and most importantly, it makes our heart beat faster than normal. This allows more oxygen and glucose to reach our cells through blood, giving us a burst of energy and thus, making us capable to fight or flight.
