https://www.tractionerag.com/grizzbait Yep it's Grizzbait, Traction eRag's most scenic ride but also the most dangerous. Grizzly bears love maple syrup so we put this on all the riders. So you don't have to be first, but you definitely don't want to be the last rider. Our ride each day starts at the base of a mountain, then we dodgy grizzlies as we climb into the spectacular alpine terrain. Every year Grizzbait is held somewhere in the Canadian rockies, and this time it's near the Alaskan border. This year we had riders from Bulgaria, South Africa, United Kingdom and Australia... and of course quite a few riders crossed the USA border before the proposed wall gets built. We even had Megs Braap along for this ride although she always seemed to be in a rush. Gosh we are awfully sorry about that. The BBC is of course an English channel adhering to family values but whenever that Welshman shows up I'm afraid he upsets the apple cart somewhat. Oh fuck, here he is again. It's the middle of summer but this far north it will be quite cool when we get to the top. But the long rocky climb is definitely getting us warmed up. It's a real privilege to ride in these mountains. All these national and provincial parks collectively form a world heritage site, but we have the blessings of the park rangers as long as we stick to the established tracks. The Canadian rockies are part of a continuous series of mountain ranges running from Alaska to the tip of south America. Composed of shale and limestone, apparently it's quite different here to American rockies further south, and of course the Canadians claim theirs are better. As do the Yanks lol. The Aussies not quite so chatty. Unlike the Brits. Some bad news, I didn't actually get to do the Red Rose ride so you won't see any videos doh. It was the toughest ride at Grizzbait this year and the guys had to work as a team to ride, pull and lift bikes up an endless steep rocky hill. Apparently they all eventually made it and they couldn't stop grinning for the next few days. My dodgy knee was playing up so I reluctantly pulled out, but maybe next year.... When I got back to Australia people were asking me what it's like to ride in the alpine regions, and I just kept falling back on the same words... amazing. Incredible. The air is so clean and at many points you have 360 degree views of snow covered mountains. You really do feel as if you are on top of the world. But instead of trying to describe it more, I'll just let the video explain....Occasionally we would come across old workers cabins gradually falling to pieces, and we would wonder what it was like staying in these uninsulated cabins in the colder months. No doubt a tougher breed back of workers then. The wide angle of my action cam fails to capture the incredible scenery accurately, but we were lucky enough to have a professional drone operator along, Davin Jones, who volunteered to provide some drone footage which does show the true beauty of the Canadian rockies. The volunteers are hugely appreciated because of the logistics of running these trips. Truc was another volunteer, a professional photographer who came along to take some very cool snapshots like this one of a gumby jumping in the air... who has probably been surprised by a vicious marmot. And we can't thank the local riders enough who volunteered as guides, sweep riders and assistants to show us their riding areas. Cheers guys. Title: Ready To Go (feat.
