http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com Beta 2019 model reviews may not mention an important issue - main bearing failures. These particularly hit 2018 models but have been occurring in Xtrainer, RR250 and RR300 models for 2019 too. Yeah it's time for a Beta blues review ride - much as we love our Beta RR250, RR300 and Xtrainer models we are getting concerned about some quality control issues. I recently did a video about main bearing failures in late model Beta two strokes. I had a long and serious think about the video first, as I am aware it could damage Beta's reputation, and we hope it is resolved before we see 2020 Beta RR300 reviews coming out. There's a small but significant number of main bearing failures in late model Beta RR250, RR300 and Xtrainer models (5% according to Beta USA). It's a serious issue - strange engine noises leading to main bearing failures causing bottom end seizures. It's not common but Beta dealers and mechanics I spoke to say there is definitely a problem, most likely with the quality of the bearings themselves, but possibly also poor quality seals. Later reports suggest poor bearing installation though. 2019 Beta Xtrainer reviews won't mention this I bet, but maybe it's been fixed too. And unfortunately I have had a pile of further failures reported since I released that video, we don't want it reported in 2020 Beta RR250 reviews. All manufacturers make big mistakes at various times. How you handle it is what you sets you apart, we don't want main bearing failures discussed in a 2020 Beta Xtrainer review! Warning signs of a main bearing failure problem in your Beta two stroke? A high pitched squeal, another reported bad vibrations. Obviously you always stop your RR250 or RR300 engine the moment you hear any strange sounds. If it's coming from the bottom end particularly you really need to stop. In some cases the main bearings have shattered then ruined the cases, barrel and piston. Very very expensive despite the Beta Xtrainer, RR300 and RR250 being so reliable usually. Some of these guys did limp home but you risk potentially wrecking the bottom end most of the engine except for the gearbox and clutch. So any strange engine noise in your RR250 or RR300, stop riding before you sieze the bottom end! We have four Betas in our riding group which have been trouble free and great to ride. Ben has over 200 hours on his 2018 model and loves it. Apart from this main bearing issue the two stroke engines are superb, and despite KTM overhauling their engine design I keep hearing about guys who have ridden both and they still feel Beta has the edge with its excellent power delivery. There are a number of things that can cause problems with Beta main bearing failure. The failures in late model Beta two strokes appear to be just the first two here, but we are keen to hear about different experiences and opinions too. Leave them in the comments. And listen for strange main bearing noises indicating engine problems - high pitched whining, screeching, grinding sounds etc. Check 2019 Beta Xtrainer RR250 and RR300 reviews to see if it's mentioned at all. But quality control appears to be a serious issue for Beta enduro. Discussions with many dealers suggests Beta has always been a bit sloppy compared to other manufacturers, but it has apparently increased the last two years. As expected the video about Beta main bearing failures resulted in various comments such as "You should have bought a Japanese bike". This is just blind brand loyalty. If you dig deep enough you find problems with Japanese bikes. And of course plenty of KTM riders responded the vid saying "You should have bought an Austrian bike instead of that Italian shit". Same deal, scratch the surface and KTM has made some bad blunders, although of course kudos to them for constantly innovating. And unlike Beta, they are more likely to acknowledge mistakes quickly, do recalls, issue service bulletins and generally honour their warranties and even fix bikes outside of warranty. Anyway, I'm going to keep exploring the Beta main bearings issue and will report back at some point. Let's hope 2020 Beta RR250 and RR300 reviews don't mention main bearing problems.
