http://www.crosstrainingenduro.com http://tractionerag.com How to hop logs on dirt bikes! Getting over suspended logs can be needed in hard enduro. Some of us hate them. Some of us love them. They are definitely a challenge. We have already covered 10 ways to hop over logs in our training vids. The important key is to make sure the suspended log is close to your rear tyre. Then it needs very little effort to lift the bike over instead of log hopping for extreme enduro. You can see the pivot point ensures easy lifting. This was my first time using this log technique. I don't quite get the bike enough, and it was way too heavy for me lift... at least while I'm recovering from this spine fracture. But one method we didn't cover was suspended logs. Once a log is in the air, things can get complicated. It can bounce around. If you use the punch technique, it can be much harder to punch the suspended log in the correct spot. You must keep your body position right to the rear fender to avoid going over the handlebars when log hopping. And get ready to put your boots on the log if momentum does not carry you over. If a high suspended log looks too risky, here is the safest way to do your log technique. Pull the front wheel up and over the log. Lets cover the basics with Megs Braap. If it's not too high, you can do a wheelie and let momentum carry you over. Just keep your body position to the rear so there's no risk of going over the handlebars for hopping logs. Next you can do the punch technique when learning how to hop logs on dirt bikes. And if you are very good with the clutch, try the double blip technique for extra drive. We have covered these skills already. The risk increases as the log gets higher. You need someone on the other side to grab the front wheel. If you position the bike correctly, it's very easy to get it across. If the log is against the front of your skidplate, it's much harder to lift the bike over. You can see the pivot point is too far forward for hopping logs. But then I get the front wheel as high as possible against the suspended log. Scott pulls on the front wheel to prevent the bike sliding back. And now it's incredibly easy to lift the bike over. I hope this helps you get over those very high suspended logs.
