Jeff Salzenstein, Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, analyzes Robert Bautista Agut slice backhand, and shares a pro footwork tip to help you move more efficiently and effortlessly on the court. Here’s a detailed breakdown on Roberto Bautista Agut footwork: 1. He’s dealing with a wide and low ball. Jeff wants you to notice his split step, where he takes his right foot back, so he can push off the ground. 2. Bautista Agut takes a big step, which allows him to get to the ball at once and execute his slice backhand. 3. Bautista Agut gets on his front foot as he hits the ball. When he finishes the shot, his left leg comes through to square up and achieve perfect balance. 4. Bautista Agut recovers with a little carioca step, where he crosses his left leg behind behind. In fact, Federer, Dimitrov, and Thiem use this footwork pattern quite often. It’ll allow you to keep facing the net as you recover back and get ready for the next shot. 5. Bautista Agut doesn’t rush to recover back to the middle, he takes his time and gets back into a neutral position. Jeff is passionate about teaching footwork, and uncovering the key concepts that will make a huge difference on your tennis game. Finally, Jeff advises performing single leg strength exercises to become more explosive on the court.
